Round 7 2024 – Oulton Park

Oulton Park, the final round of the Lansdowne 2024 season. A select entry were there to throw the dice in a final effort for points to seal places in their championship’s and where better than one of the best circuits in the country. Fast, flowing and technical, this is it!

Qualifying

The Championship class had ‘Crafty Cockney’ Mark Taylor string together the best lap to take Pole from Graham Higlett and Dan Jackson with the 500 clubman headed by Jamie O’Brien who sealed a fourth place grid position ahead of Andrew Jones and Robin Stokes, whilst in the 350’s Nick Bedford lead young Serb Perez from Jack Hebb in third. The pre-55 saw Richard Hann slot in 15th overall ahead of Brian Riley.

Race 1

There was going be no stopping Mark Taylor in the championship class. Taylor, leading from start to finish was untouchable whilst Dan Jackson and Graeme Higlett gave chase early doors but their firepower was lacking, Jackson the closest but it wasn’t to be. Of the clubman, Jamie O’Brien was the class act finishing fourth overall with a superb display whilst Robin Stokes slotted in second, which was one for the old guard ahead of the stylish Andrew Jones. Importantly, with the Clubman 500 championship still not decided, Pegleg herself, Angela Cragg valiantly took more points than her rival Stuart Tonge. The maximum 350s points were taken by Nick Bedford who took a super win on his 350 Manx ahead of Jack Hebb in second with young rookie Sebastian Perez -Junior in third. The pre-55 battle was won by Richard Hann on his Triton from Luke Bailey and Brian Riley third.

Race 2

Mark Taylor, once again took the win in the championship class, but this time it was a much closer affair with Jackson and Higlett right on the pace, In fact Jackson took the fastest lap but still at the flag Taylor held a 1 1/2 second lead from a much closer Jackson in second and Higlett third. In the Clubman class, Jamie O’Brien once again turned in a very classy win and fourth overall with Andrew Jones, second, and the gorgeous Steve Parrott third. The Craggy / Tonge battle continued with Craggy beating the pain barrier to hold off a charging Stuart Tonge but it‘s close! Nick Bedford, once again took the 350 win from Jack Hebb whilst in the pre-55 Richard Hann put in a great performance, taking the premium trophy from the ever smiling Brian Riley.

Race 3

With no racing on Sunday, the Bank holiday Monday Race was again dominated by the incredible Mark Taylor with second place snatched at the flag from Dan Jackson by a very determined Graeme Higlett. The clubman once again had Jamie O’Brien ruling the roost with Andrew Jones a safe second, and Robin Stokes, rounding out the podium positions. In the 350s Nick Bedford, once again, was the star of the show with Jack Hebb, second from young Seb Perez.

Race 4

Another immaculate ride from Mark Taylor sealed another perfect weekend and win number four, Mark also taking the weekends best lap time of 1:58.432 average 84.35 mph. Graeme Higlett once again kept Dan Jackson at bay to snatch second and round out his first season in the Lansdowne, but a beaming Dan Jackson knew it was his year and this talented super competitive rider had bagged enough points to take the top prize and will be crowned ‘Lansdowne British Champion’. Jamie O’Brien rounded out his fantastic weekend with yet another win in the clubman class from Andrew Jones and Robin Stokes But further back the battle to be clubman champion which has raged all season had Stuart Tonge beat Angela Cragg in the race, but Angela had done enough to seal the crown. In the 350s, Jack Hebb completed his cracking weekend with a win over the impressive Sebastian Perez Junior, whose speed is increasing in line with his experience gained.
